It’s sad that people try and fake Alexa ratings. Alexa has always received a bad rep for being prone to manipulation but it offers a great service that no one else does.
People should focus more on how to solidify the integrity of Alexa’s data rather than trying to trash it. What can you possible get out of faking traffic details? if you own a site and fake your stats you are obviously not increasing your user base, therefore you are not benefiting from it.

Another way you can increase your Alexa ranking is if the site is used as a central library to link out images to other sites. If a site , e.g. example.com , has a link to an image located at another site, e.g:
example2.com/images/traffic.gif , then Alexa records a hit at example2.com when this image is accessed during the rendering of the page at example.com.
