Alexa ranks sites base on the information gathered from all Alexa tool bar users. Therefore, visits to your site from non-Alexa users is not much of a help when it comes to boosting your rank. If you want to increase your Alexa rank you have to identify the group of Alexa Toolbar users and attract these users to your site. It doesn’t take a genius to discover it right away. They are webmasters and SEO guys. Of course, when you attract this group to your site, you will inflate your Alexa rank, and in fact, your traffic will not be much bigger. You will only create an illusion. I don’t judge whether it’s right or wrong, but just think that it might be a waste of time, since it will not do much for your site except displaying a higher rank.

Sign up for webmasters forums such as Digitalpoint or SEOchat. This can significantly boost your Alexa Traffic Rank provided you know how to do it properly.

• Get active writing posts, ask for comments on your articles about various problems related to Google, Yahoo, etc
• Use signature in all your posts
• Go to webmasters’ blogs and comment on their article, referring to your articles on the subject, etc.
• You may ask other webmasters to review your site, identify problems with your code, etc.

You can cheat Alexa, because the system can be manipulated, but you will not find the answer because everyone who knows how to beat Alexa will never share it with the whole world.

Get down to work and start writing your content, promote it, and forget Alexa.

1. Install the Alexa toolbar or Firefox’s SearchStatus extension and set your blog as your homepage. - this will count only as one hit a day, no matter how many times you open your homepage

2. Put up an Alexa rank widget on your website. - it may help, provided that your visitors are interested in your Alexa ranking, which is highly unlikely.

3. Encourage others to use the Alexa toolbar including friends, fellow webmasters as well as site visitors/blog readers. - there is no true benefit of having Alexa toolbar installed. Regular visitors to your website don’t need it at all.

4. Work in an Office or own a company? Get the Alexa toolbar or SS Firefox extension installed on all computers and set your website as the homepage for all browsers. - Your bosses may come down with all their wrath upon you when you do something that crazy.

5. Get friends to review and rate your Alexa website profile. - it is a pure nonsense.

6. Write or Blog about Alexa. Webmaster and bloggers love to hear about ways to increase their Alexa rank. They’ll link to you and send you targeted traffic (i.e. visitors with the toolbar already installed). - this might be true, if you have time and energy.

7. Flaunt your URL in webmaster forums. Webmasters usually have the toolbar installed. - 100% right. This is a legitimate way.

8. Write content that is related to webmasters. This can fall in the category of domaining and SEO, two fields in which most webmasters will have the Alexa toolbar installed. - can’t argue with this one.

9. Use Alexa redirects on your website URL. Try this: http://redirect.alexa.com/redirect?www.doshdosh.com . Replace doshdosh.com with the URL for your website. - doesn’t work.

10. Post in Asian social networking websites or forums. Some webmasters have suggested that East Asian web users are big Alexa toolbar fans, judging by the presence of several Asia-based websites in the Alexa Top 500. - nonsense

11. Create a webmaster tools section on your website. This is a magnet for webmasters who will often revisit your website to gain access to the tools. - this must make sense to your visitors. If your website is about Florida beaches, this is one bad example.

12. Get Dugg or Stumbled. - may help a bit.

13. Use PayperClick Campaigns. Buying advertisements on search engines such as Google or Exact Seek will help bring in Traffic. - this is a legitimate way but may prove very expensive.

14. Create an Alexa category on your blog and use it to include any articles or news about Alexa. - only if you have a webmaster-related website

15. Optimize your popular posts. Got a popular post that consistently receives traffic from the search engines? - that’s a good indicator what to write and which direction to go.

16. Buy banners and links for traffic from webmaster forums and websites. - true and costly.

17. Hire forum posters to pimp your website. Either buy signatures in webmaster forums or promote specific articles or material in your website on a regular basis. - see above.

18. Pay Cybercafe owners to install the Alexa toolbar and set your website as the homepage for all their computers. This might be difficult to arrange and isn’t really a viable solution for most. - i can’t even imagine that. People know how to change the homepage. In addition, your website would have to look more like Yahoo or MSN.

20. Try Alexa auto-surfs. Do they work? Maybe for brand new sites. I think they are mostly suitable for new websites with a very poor Alexa rank. Note that there be problems when you try to use auto surfs alongside contextual ads like Adsense. - don’t even bother.

Alexa stats are not very accurate, but there is not other mechanism available to webmasters to that could tell them with a high degree of accuracy the actual traffic of the website they are interested to examine (e.g. for commercial purposes such as buying advertising space or buying the website). The Alexa rank can give webmasters an idea of how well they compare with others. Alexa ranking is just is a number the lower the better.

less that 100,000 - a good amount of traffic
less that 50,000 - very popular
less than 10,000 - heavy traffic
less than 1,000 - a huge number of visitors.

Things to do to boost your Alexa ranking:

1. Go to Alexa and check if you’re ranked at all. If not, submit your site by inserting a little file called info.txt in your root directory on your server. The file is created on the Alexa server in the Add your site info section. This will tell Alexa that your site exists.
2. Install the Alexa toolbar in your browser - every time you visit your site, the toolbar will tell Alexa that the site was visited.
3. Go to popular SEO forums such as digitalpoint.com, where almost everyone has the Alexa toolbar installed and point them to your site by writing interesting posts, indicating problems, asking for solutions, etc.
4. Don’t cheat Alexa by installing some programs that can artificially inflate your rankings because that practice can get you banned from Alexa permanently.

2. type in your website address (e.g. www.example.com or example.com)
3. Click on the traffic chart

For those who want to break the rules and are desparately looking forward to being banned by Alexa, here is the trick:

1. install the Alexa toolbar into your browser.
2. Create a special page that contains a JavaScript array of webpage addresses from your site. Then create a JavaScript function that loops through the array and opens each address into a separate browser window. Use the “timer()” function for a random interval of time between 5 and 45 seconds. Make sure that when the function reaches the end of the array of addresses it loops back to the beginning.
3. Periodically set the script to action in your browser with the Alexa toolbar and let it run.
